Course Information
Art IV is for students interested in honing technical skill and developing personal style. Students in this course will also focus on portfolio development. Students will be expected to research and develop projects in and out of class time. Students will produce work that communicates ideas through manipulation of subject matter, media and processes as well as evaluate works during formal critiques.

What does your art look like?
There are an infinite amount of ways to combine materials and techniques when making art. What periods and styles throughout art history speak the most to you visually? projects included in this unit

What is your art about?
It is hard to truly commit to a piece if you don't care about why you are making it. Your art can be 'about' anything, whether it is something purely technical and materials based or narrative and thematic in nature. The possibilities are endless! projects included in this unit

Projects:
You will be creating a large amount of work this year that falls under independent study. However, as you build your portfolio you will need to show competence in a wide range of techniques and subject matter. The following projects are meant to lend variety to your portfolio as well as show off your technical skill. We will complete a gap project after each sustained investigation piece that you do.
Principles of Design photos
Students will take photos that illustrate the Principles of Design |
Art With a Message
Use the artistic tools at your disposal to communicate ideas and opinions to your audience |
Expressive Color Portraits
Students will create a portrait using pastels or colored pencil |
Pixel Art
Students will use a grid and color match to recreate an image in pixels |
Monsters!
Students will collaborate with younger artists to create realistic monsters. |
Inspired by Cubism
Students will create work that is fragmented and includes multiple views of the subject. |
Reflective surfaces
Students will create work that mimics the reflection of light from metallic surfaces. |
Scratch board
Students will use scratch board to create a high contrast image. |
Acrylic Painting
Students will take their own photos and create a still life painting. |
Travel poster
Students will choose a location (real or imagined) and create a travel poster using watercolor |
Stained Glass
Students will design and build a small panel. |
Zines
Students will create and distribute a zine |
Action Painting
Students will punch, throw, sling or splatter to create large scale abstract art. |
