The following color schemes all have their strengths and weaknesses. Choose the one that works best towards your intended result. If you choose to focus on the meaning of one color, you can choose one hue and create tints, shades and tones for a monochromatic color scheme. If you want one part of your image to stand out, you can use a contrasting color scheme like warm or cool colors or even complementary colors. Do you want to create an image that appears unified? Analogous color schemes give a sense of harmony. Even though you need to spend time looking into the strengths of each color scheme, don't forget that it is important to choose one that appeals to you aesthetically as well.
