OverviewStudents will research an artist and submit a brief biography that includes- a one page paper discussing the artists life and describes what they make art about and/or why they make the art that they do. Students should also include 5 or more examples of that artist's work in color on a separate page. Students may choose an artist from any time period from prehistoric to current day as long as they get teacher approval. Students will then create a work of art that is inspired by (but not a copy of) the work of their chosen artist.

Before you are able to start this project, you will need to be able to identify the characteristics of an artist's style. To do that, you will need to identify common themes or subjects, the types of media and techniques used, the recurring compositions, etc.
Some of the examples below work as 'inspired by' but some are clear appropriation. Let's discuss as a class why some of these works of art (while very cool and well done) would not work for this assignment.
