Have you ever heard the phrase "You have to learn to walk before you learn to run?" Basically it means that to become proficient at any skill you need to become comfortable with the fundamentals. At some point, someone showed LeBron James how to dribble a basketball. Frida Kahlo wasn't born knowing how to paint.
Over the course of this unit you will become familiar with the Principles of Design and the Rules of Composition. These rules and principles along with the Elements of Art (line, shape, color, value, texture, space and form) are the building blocks of the visual arts. Knowing how to use these tools will not only help you create work that is aesthetically pleasing, but also help you communicate your ideas to your viewers.
