OverviewYou should feel fairly confident with various drawing and painting media at this point. This means that you can achieve the illusion of form, a range of values and textures, maintain and also manipulate proportions and create balanced and interesting compositions.
All of these skills will be put to the test with this assignment. Check out the gallery, materials and instructions below. Materials3 or more different collaged drawing surfaces
3 or more different drawing or painting media Each drawing surface should be paired with it's own drawing media. No 2 surfaces should share media. See the examples on the left for clarification. |
Instructions
Prepare your drawing surface: Choose 3 different types of paper. One should be your background or base and the other two should be glued on to your base with stick glue. Make sure you don't get glue on your actual drawing surface as it will interfere with your drawing media. Each surface should be suited to one specific media (so for example watercolor paper for watercolor, drawing paper for colored pencil, etc)
Lightly draw your object in pencil before assign value and color: Your drawing should be seamless across all of your collaged papers. You can draw pretty much anything for this assignment however, I do have some requirements that you need to meet.
1. Range of hues or values- Your drawing cannot be a cartoon or outline with no shading. You need to be able to demonstrate skill with media.
2. Photo source- You do not need to copy someone else's art work. You need to either take your own photo or find a photo of an object to create your own composition. If you create your own character or combine objects to create something imaginary that is fine too. Just make sure you have some reference photos for the textures and details and the proportions you include in your drawing.
**Basically this means No Coloring Book Syndrome**
Add your 3 finishing media: At this point you should know what is required to demonstrate skill with media in watercolor, pen, graphite, colored pencil, oil pastel and acrylic paint. Choose the media that you are most comfortable with and enjoy using the most. Make sure that you use the appropriate media for each section of paper/type of surface.
