OverviewFor this assignment we will be learning about the different types of collage and what makes them successful before you go on to make your own. One of the things that will help you create an interesting and aesthetically pleasing composition are the Principles of Design. Read through the definitions and check out the PDF below so that you will be able to identify these concepts in the slide show.

Balance- how the elements within a composition are arranged either symmetrically, asymmetrically, or radially to create the impression of equality in weight or importance.
Movement/Rhythm- repeating elements at relative intervals along a motion path. Pattern- repetition of specific element- can be a single unit (motif) or multiple elements. Unity/Harmony- a sense that all the elements in a work of art belong together Emphasis- using the elements in a way that draws the viewers attention to a focal point Variety- using multiple, dissimilar elements to create visual interest Contrast- using elements that are opposites of each other Proportion/Scale- Proportion is the size relationships within an object. Scale is the size relationships between objects |

Choose a Style! The video below shows you how to do 3 basic collage styles- Replace, Shatter, and Manipulating Scale. Your fist collage needs to be based on one of these styles. After that, you can create your own composition using any combination of textured/painted papers and found/printed images.
