OverviewStudents will use images from magazines and old books to create a scene inspired by surrealism and the work of Joe Webb and Jesse Treece. Collages should have a distinct background, middle ground and foreground and should be a combination of 3 or more separate images.

Background-the area or scenery behind the main object. Middleground- the visual plane located between both the foreground and background Foreground-area of the picture space nearest to the viewer |
Click though the examples below to see how others have incorporated images so that they become a part of a cohesive whole even though the original sources may have been wildly different. It is very important to deliberately place your images and to keep your edges and cuts clean. Rough edges and haphazard placement can ruin a great concept and keep your collage from coming together as a unified image.

Prep- find multiple backgrounds and set them aside. Then find and cut out objects that appeal to you by sorting through the pages provided. Try out various compositions by placing them together without gluing anything down. Submit your top 2 favorite compositions for an in progress grade so that I can be sure that you are on the right track.
Finish- once you have submitted your prep and gotten feedback, you can glue down your final composition using a piece of project paper as backing. Submit your completed collage with a completed rubric for a grade.
