OverviewThis project is inspired by reliquaries. Reliquaries were ornate containers that housed relics. The reliquaries featured on the left house items of signifigance to the Christian church. The reliquary would often relate to the object it contained. For example, a container for the remains of a saint might be covered in scenes from that saint's life.
This project will have two parts. First, you will be required to make a small object that holds symbolic importance to you. This object needs to represent you or something that you care about in some way. For example, if you want to symbolize yourself and you are quirky and creative you might make a tiny unicorn. If you are exceptionally clever, a fox or an owl. As an artist and art teacher, I might make a tiny pencil or easle. Once you have chosen an object, you must make a container to house that object. The container has to relate to your object in some way. You will complete a plan of your object and container that includes a sketch of what they will look like as well as what techniques you will use to create them |
